Excerpt from "Trike of the Medusa (After Gericault)"
Michael Arcega

digital video (15:09)
2019
A meditation on Air and Water. Made during a residency at the Unicron Art Centre in Beijing and filmed in China during the winter of 2019. This is 1 of 6 videos that are part of an installation called Trike of the Medusa (After Gericault). This is a non-linear thoughtful meandering on topics like 1) Body-double bikes 2) food 3) barriers 4) culture 5) future 6) air and water. This was made before the Covid-19 pandemic and fires in California. As Mike revisits this in 2023, the memory of isolation, unsettled quietude and a brooding existential threat loomed.

[Sounds by Tarantel and moments with Black Dice]

Michael Arcega (born Manila, Philippines) lives in San Francisco where he currently maintains an art practice and teaches at SFSU.
